I have enjoyed seeing this 1964 Impala (edit: Biscayne) street parked in my neighborhood, so much so that I posted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of it a couple weeks ago. Sadly it looks like its 52-year reign might be over thanks to a careless driver.
It doesn’t look like it was hit in this spot, since it’s still aligned with the curb and there’s nothing on the pavement around it to indicate a collision. It couldn’t have moved far based on how the back is now dragging, but at least the old girl still moves. For how much longer is anyone’s guess - it was already an unrestored survivor with some rough edges, so whoever owns it may not have the dough to fix it, especially with some potential frame damage lurking.
Every time I start thinking about the plethora of free street parking in my neighborhood and how it wouldn’t be that hard to own a car here, something like this happens to make me reconsider.

This makes me sad to see a classic like that....

Fixable but nowhere near worth it.

That isn't an impala. It's a Biscayne or Bel Air- and Impala would have much more trim and 6 tail lights.

really liked the B&W picture, wiht nothing else in view, and the building styles, it really looked period.

Whoops, I looked up pics of a Biscayne and the front didn't look like the one on this car

yep. like, it would be terrible but if someone blasted the Montego like that, it would be done.

Yeah, I had a car down to the “trunk frame” years ago. TON of work. TON of misalingment risk.

Yeah, Montego is unibody, you can’t even do a “frame off” restoration.
So if it’s slammed like this, it’s toast.
And it’s ensured to over 4x what I paid for it so if it goes I’ll just go find another weird Mercury to own lol
